Many men simply walk into a shop in the mall, or into a sidewalk shop looking for a watch to buy. They are not really sure what kind of watch they would like, but they know they would like a nice gents wrist watch to go with their favorite suit and tie. Many men are required to wear suits to work, and having a nice watch to wear is part of that "uniform". But shopping this way could cause you to spend more money than you need too.

Some of the nicer, more expensive watches are names you have heard of, for example Rolex, Omega, and Bulova. These watches are probably top of the line timepieces and can run into the multi-thousand dollar range for a good watch. Of course you can find these watches on the used market for a reasonable price, but not everyone likes to spend that much money for a used watch, especially if they are not sure about the seller or the seller is private. A good place to look, then, is at a jewelry exchange store. These stores, or markets, have jewelry experts available to evaluate every piece they are selling, and they can certify it so that you can be sure you are getting the real deal, and not wasting your money on a fake, or something that is in bad condition. Plus, since it is a used market, the prices will be much more reasonable than buying something brand new from the shop.

When you go to select the watch at a jewelry exchange, or the local jewelry store, be sure you feel comfortable with the salesman that you get. Hopefully, you are shopping at a store where you already know the sales force, or the proprietor, and you can use this to your advantage to work a better deal, especially if they have a strong desire to make a sell. You can perhaps try to get them to drop the price a little, or they may take another piece of fine jewelry you have for a trade in. Getting to know the sales staff is important in any transaction involving a lot of money, and can really help you feel satisfied with your purchase, since there is a level of comfort involved.

If you are required to "dress nice" for work, with a suit and tie, you will want a gents wrist watch to complement your attire. Don't just walk into any shop ready to drop cash on the table. Take the time to get to know the place and the people you are buying from, and consider buying from a reputable second hand or jewelry exchange store. Of course, you should take your time when selecting the best gents wrist watch, no matter where you shop.
