Breitling Watches
Breitling began as a company that created wristwatches primarily for aviation, and still do today. However, their innovative technology and sleek designs have made them popular with regular citizens as a high-end luxury watch. Some of the aviation features that have made them so popular include a large face to display more information on the analog dials; mechanical, automatic-winding mechanism; and other additional functions including flyback and moon phase.
One famous model made by Breitling for aviation is the Navitimer. In the 1940s Breitling added the circular slide rule to the bezel, making it an ideal tool for pilots. Even the Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association (AOPA) took notice, and offered its own version with the AOPA logo assigned to the watch. Then, in the 1960s Breitling created a version of the Navitimer with a 24 hour dial to be used by astronauts.
To demonstrate that wristwatches can be used for so much more than just telling time, Breitling created the Breitling Emergency that actually sends radio transmissions that can be picked up by airplanes. Under normal conditions the signal can be picked up at a range of up to 167 km by search aircraft flying at 20,000 feet. This is a serious watch not just for pilots, but for seamen and adventurers alike. Even Bear Grylls wears one on many episodes of Man vs. Wild.
Breitling makes very useful, functional watches with some of the highest quality materials that can be found today. This, coupled with seriously advanced technology makes for some of the best wristwatches money can buy. The aviation features and design makes them completely unique to the luxury watch market, and with names like Super Avenger, Bentley Flying B and Starliner, you know you’re going to get a seriously tough watch.
